Kwara Governor’s Chief of Staff Dies at 73
The Chief of Staff to the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji AbdulKadir Mahe, passed away on Saturday at the age of 73 after experiencing sudden weakness. According to a close family member, Mahe had shown no signs of illness the day before his death, actively participating in multiple public engagements.
The family member detailed Mahe’s final day, noting that on Friday, he attended wedding ceremonies at both the Chief Imam of Ilorin’s residence and the Belgore family house. He then participated in Jumat prayers at Ansaru-deen Central mosque and visited the Immigration headquarters to process his passport renewal for an upcoming Umrah pilgrimage.
On the morning of his death, Mahe drove himself to a friend’s house around 8:00 am but appeared visibly weak upon arrival. Despite immediate efforts to get medical attention at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), he passed away before reaching the facility.
Mahe, who was the son of the late 10th Emir of Ilorin, Mallam Aliyu AbdulKadir, received a proper Islamic burial at his residence. The funeral prayer (janazah) was led by the Chief Imam of Ilorin and attended by prominent figures including Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo.
The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, has scheduled the fidau (prayer for the deceased) for Thursday, to be led by Chief Imam Dr. Muhammad Bashir. Governor AbdulRazaq expressed his condolences to the Emir, the bereaved family, and government officials, praising Mahe as a “quintessential public servant” and praying for his soul to rest in paradise.
