Akwa Ibom Christmas Village: Renowned gospel musicians, star artistes to perform
No fewer than seven top gospel singers and several star artistes have been slated for a 31-day performance to entertain Akwa Ibom residents and tourists at the ongoing Christmas Village in the state.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of the Christmas Village at Unity Park, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, Governor Pastor Umo Eno warned hoodlums to stay away, ensuring tourists and residents can enjoy the peaceful ambience while being entertained by artistes throughout the festive season.
Tagged Christmas Unplugged 2.0, Eno, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, stated that the state is open to tourists visiting the Christmas Village in the spirit of the season.
“We warn hoodlums to steer clear of the Christmas Village. Security agencies will be on ground to tackle any incidents,” he declared.
The Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr Charles Udoh, addressing participants, highlighted that for the first time, the state would showcase diverse arts from its 31 local government areas, with each council having a day of performance in the Christmas Village.
Udoh disclosed that many entrepreneurs profited from their sales last year and expressed optimism about even greater success this year.
“Last year, the Christmas Village transformed ordinary grocery vendors into full-fledged businessmen. This year, we will showcase good talents for the world to admire Akwa Ibom’s tourism potential, supported by the peaceful ambience of the state,” he said.
He added that over 210 micro-businesses would operate within the Christmas Village, with employment numbers expected to double from the 721 jobs created last year.
Artistes featuring in this year’s celebrations include the legendary Bongo Zigwe, Timaya, other renowned Nigerian musicians, and indigenous artistes from Akwa Ibom. The annual Christmas Carols Season 17 will be held on 13th December.
“We invite tourists from all over the world to visit Akwa Ibom during the yuletide,” Udoh said.
