The former Lagos Chief of Staff, Otunba Samuel Olukunle Ojo, has donated palliative packages, comprising food items and essential supplies to orphanages and charity organizations in Lagos.
The gesture comes on the heels of the cancellation of the birthday celebration by President Bola Tinubu, who clocks 72 years today but directed his friends and associates to direct such palliatives and gifts to homes and orphanages of their choice.
It would be recalled that President Bola Tinubu through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, cancelled his 72nd birthday celebration.
The reason given for the cancellation of the birthday greetings and merry making was because of the present mood of the nation and the recent killing of officers and men of the Army and Police in Delta State and the recent spate of security breaches by criminal elements in different parts of Nigeria.
Speaking on the motivation behind the donations, Ojo, in a statement said: “With the effects of the hardship and current skyrocketing of prices of food items affecting various segments of society, low income households have been particularly hit as many have had their source of livelihoods disrupted, and particularly the directive of the President and Commander in Chief, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, towards channeling all donations and gifts for his 72nd birthday to charity homes of their choice.”
Some of the beneficiaries of the packages include SOS Children Village, Isolo, Lagos and several other motherless children homes in Lagos.
