AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria has set a goal to electrify one million homes each year using clean energy, prioritizing rural communities without access to electricity.
During a media parley in Abuja on Tuesday, Hon. Jabiru Salisu Abdullahi, CEO of AUDA-NEPAD Nigeria, outlined the agency’s alignment with the African Union’s Agenda 2063, which aims for a prosperous and integrated Africa.
He stated, “I intend to light one million houses using clean energy. It’s by no means an easy task, but it’s doable. The target is this year. We are targeting the rural communities where they lack rural electricity access.”
Hon. Jabiru also emphasized their focus on good governance, transparency, and regional integration.
He remarked, “Our transformation from NEPAD to AUDA-NEPAD signified not just a change in name but a deepened commitment to operational efficiency and measurable impact. We are focused on fostering good governance and transparency, capacity building, empowerment of farmers, youth, and women, and regional integration.”

The AUDA-NEPAD CEO further discussed empowering professionals through the NEPAD Academy and supporting smallholder farmers with resources and training.
He explained that the agency enhances local government collaboration by appointing coordinators and endorsing direct funding to improve grassroots development.
Despite challenges like funding and the need for legislative support, Hon. Jabiru expressed optimism due to increased budget allocations and progress on a bill to establish the agency’s legal framework.
He said, “We acknowledge that challenges remain, yet we are undeterred. With strong partnerships, innovation, and commitment, we are turning these challenges into opportunities.”
Hon. Jabiru also highlighted the crucial role of the press in promoting transparency and achieving government goals.
