Diaspora Voting: Senator Ned Nwoko encourage Nigerians in diapora to support the proposed bill.
The Annual General Meeting of the Nigerians In Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) UK South was held on 19 August at the Union Jack Club Waterloo, London. In attendance were the Chairman of NIDCOM (Hon. Abike Dabiri- Erewa), Ambassador to the UK(Amb. Sarafa Tunji Isola) and the Major of Southwark(Michael Situ).
Distinguished Senator Ned Nwoko who was a special guest was represented at the occasion by his Global Director for Diaspora Affairs, Mr Patrick U Maidoh. Mr Maidoh delivered a speech on behalf of Senator Ned which focused on the Senator’s proposed Bill for Diaspora engagement in the electoral process in Nigeria. The speech highlighted the continued and painful disenfranchisement of over 20 million Nigerians in Diaspora from participating in the electoral process of their fatherland. The speech was aimed at galvanising Nigerians in Diaspora to pull together as a collective block to support the proposed Bill.
As the new gale of electoral reform is blowing across the world, embraced by many progressive nations, Nigeria being the giant of Africa must embrace diaspora voting and participation.
The speech ended with the Senator calling for diasporans to put hands to the plough, sensitising one another, putting party division, biases and idiosyncrasies aside for this change to happen.
The Senator’s message was well received by the audience and was seconded by the chairman of NIDCOM Hon. Abike Dabiri
