Douye Diri Marks 5th Anniversary In Office With Medical Outreach.
For his 5th-anniversary in office celebrations, the Bayelsa State Government has launched an extensive medical outreach programme at Ikarama Cottage Hospital in the Okordia Clan of Yenagoa LGA.
Spearheaded by Governor Douye Diri under his prosperity government, the initiative is aimed at establishing a robust, resilient healthcare system that ensures equitable access to quality medical services for Bayelsa residents, in line with the state’s Assured Agenda.
At the programme’s launch, Diri outlined the services on offer, which include free medical consultations, minor surgical interventions, screenings, health education, and preventive services, with a particular focus on maternal and child health.
“This outreach is designed to benefit not only Bayelsa State but also our neighbours in Rivers State, especially residents in Joinkarama 1, 2, 3, 4, and Mbaiama,” the governor said.
Professor Seiyefa Brisibe, Commissioner for Health, confirmed that the medical outreach is fully operational, with teams deployed across all communities in the Okordia Clan.
“We have successfully conducted minor surgeries at Ikarama Cottage Hospital, and more complex cases are being referred to designated healthcare centres,” he noted.
Brisibe stressed that access to food supplements and healthcare is a fundamental right, urging Bayelsa residents to take full advantage of the initiative.
Adding a historical perspective, the paramount ruler of Ikarama Community, Chief Wariebi Beribozigha, recounted that the idea of establishing a healthcare centre in the community was initiated between 1986 and 1995 by Chief Guine Okah, who donated the land for the project.
“Construction commenced during the tenure of Chief Richard Seibe (1995–1998), and I am grateful that, over the years, successive leaders ensured the facility received the necessary renovations to become a fully operational cottage hospital,” the monarch said.
