Funke Akindele
Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has said she doesn’t regard her two failed marriages as “failures.”
The award-winning actress made this known while speaking in an interview with Wazobia FM in Lagos.
Akindele explained that her mother taught her that success can’t be achieved without failure.
According to her, she just takes marriage “as it comes,” stressing that her mental health and career are more important.
The thespian noted that her priority is to live an impactful life and cater for her children and siblings.
“If you ask me now can you tell me one failure, I don’t see it as a failure. My personal life – marriage, I just take it as it comes. My mental health is very important. My career is very important, darling.
“I have to make an impact. I have to empower a lot of people. I have to inspire young people out there. I have to stay strong for my children and my siblings. Why am I living? I have a purpose, so my head is up. Yes I cry, yes I break down, but after I cry, I just look in the mirror and say, ‘keep moving,’” she said.
Funke Akindele and her second husband, JJC Skillz, parted ways in 2022
The split was originally made public by JJC Skillz in 2022 during an election campaign via his Instagram page, but the specific reasons for their separation were never disclosed by Akindele.
The actress said she was filming when somebody called her and told her that her marriage had crashed.
She urged young people to take their time and not rush into marriage, because if they do, they would rush out.
Akindele stated that then, she wanted to get married and have children, but lamented that her marriage did not work out fine.
“I was actually filming and somebody called me and told me, I wanted to die!
“You know I cried, lost some good deals then. But I didn’t let it break me. Thank God for my mum who encouraged me to put more effort to work.”
The actress said she channelled the energy to work and kept saving more, adding that she did not allow the situation to break her down.
