Senator Gbenga Daniel flags off Training for Rice Farmers, Reiterate President Tinubu’s Commitment to Revamp Agriculture in Nigeria
Former Governor of Ogun State and current Senator for Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, reiterated the dedication ofPresident Bola Tinubu’s administration to rejuvenate the agricultural sector and champion initiatives aimed at bolstering food self-sufficiency in Nigeria.
Speaking at the launch of a rice farmers’ training program at the POLA Facility in Sagamu, sponsored by Senator Daniel in collaboration with the National Productivity Centre, the senator emphasized the Tinubu government’s resolve to position Nigeria as a leading global rice producer.
The event included the distribution of free rice seedlings and fertilizers to over 100 participants, aligning with Senator Daniel’s vision to enhance the rice value chain for self-sufficiency and import substitution in Ogun State.
Addressing the gathering, Senator Daniel acknowledged Nigeria’s vast potential in rice cultivation and production. He urged citizens to rekindle interest in farming, not only for local consumption but also to generate foreign exchange for the nation.
The senator emphasized that the rice farmers’ training program was a crucial part of his agenda to bring governance closer to his constituents and deepen the dividends of democracy.
Senator Daniel called on Nigerians to support the current administration’s efforts in addressing the country’s challenges, asserting that agriculture, with its abundant land resources, presents significant prospects for economic growth.
Highlighting his activities since assuming office, Senator Daniel pledged to provide adequate representation to address the strategic needs of his senatorial district.
The Director-General of the National Productivity Centre, Dr. Nasir Raji-Mustapha, lauded Senator Daniel for complementing the federal government’s initiatives to enhance citizen productivity, considering rice production as the “new oil” for the nation’s economy.
Represented by Engr. (Mrs.) Linda Bitrus, Raji-Mustapha urged participants to reciprocate the organizers’ efforts and strive to make Ogun State, particularly the Ogun East Senatorial District, a hub for rice production not only in Nigeria but also in the West Africa sub-region and beyond.
