The Council of Igbo Leaders in Iba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has commended the Oniba Ekun of Iba Kingdom, Oba Sulamon Adeshina Raji-Ashade for his intervention over some issues affecting the Igbo community.
One of the oba’s interventions is the claim by Chief Emeka Onuoha that he wants to celebrate his one proposed one-year anniversary as Eze Ndigbo of Igbo-Elerin and also the New Yam festival (Iriji).
A communique issued after the meeting between the Oniba of Iba, Eze Ndigbo of Iba LCDA, Chief Emeka Onuoha, and some Igbo chiefs held on 18th, November 2023, at the Palace of Oniba of Iba, stated emphatically that Onuoha is not the Eze Ndigbo of Iba Land but the Obi of Igbo Elerin.
The resolution also said Onuoha should not be called, addressed or referred to as Eze Ndigbo.
The communique said only one person should be installed as Eze Ndigbo of Iba LCDA and that John Greg Ezebuiadi is the recognized Eze Ndigbo of Iba LCDA.
The communique added that every titled Igbo man could celebrate an Iriji, and that Onuoha, being an Obi is allowed to go ahead with his event (New Yam Festival) scheduled for Sunday, November 19th, 2023.
It was also agreed that Onuoha’s event scheduled for Sunday, 19th November is only for Iriji and nothing more.
The communique urged the Ndigbo of Iba LCDA to maintain peace and avoid all situations that could lead to the breakdown of law and order.
