Tinubu Launches Digital Census Gathering Portal
…assures of National Population Census Holding In Nigeria Soon
President Bola Tinubu has unveiled a digital platform to facilitate easy census collation processes in Nigeria.
He assured that funds would be made available for the National Population Commission (NPC) to carry out the suspended census in the country.
The President gave the assurance on Wednesday, at the launch of the National Geospatial Data Repository, Digital CRVS System, and Inauguration of the National Coordination Committee for CRVS at the Presidential Villa Abuja.
While calling for collaboration among Ministries, departments, and Agencies of government, Tinubu underscored the relevance of data to national growth.
He described census data as an indispensable asset to the country.
He called on the census experts to deploy cutting-edge technology in gathering data on Nigeria’s population, saying the nation cannot afford to lag behind in efficient data sourcing to boost development.
According to the President, Nigeria has a lot to be grateful for, especially for not being prone to natural disasters.
Recall that the immediate past administration of Muhammadu Buhari had released the sum of N200 billion to the National Population Commission to conduct a national census.
While a large chunk of the funds were deployed by the agency in the preliminary stages of the census collation, the Federal Government had to postpone the exercise owing to other exigencies.
