Trump plans to eradicate IRS, shift tax burden to outsiders — US official
United States Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick, has said President Donald Trump’s goal is to ‘abolish’ the Internal Revenue Service.
Lutnick, who disclosed this to Fox News on Wednesday, said Trump wants all outsiders to pay.
His remarks comes as the IRS is reportedly poised to lay off thousands of workers, build on a pledge Trump made to create an “External Revenue Service” to oversee tariffs and other potential foreign revenue.
Recall that Trump had also floated the idea of abolishing federal income taxes as part of his plans of “tariffing and taxing foreign nations to enrich our citizens.”
Speaking about Trump’s tariff plans, Lutnick said, “Think about it, Donald Trump announces the External Revenue Service, and his goal is very simple.
“His goal is to abolish the Internal Revenue Service and let all the outsiders pay.”
Lutnick also explained that they intend to use a combination of tariffs and Elon Musk’s DOGE purges of waste and fraud to cut spending and try to eliminate the IRS.
Meanwhile, Trump on Wednesday signed more executive orders including one terminating any federal taxpayer-funded benefits from going to or incentivizing migrants in the U.S. illegally.
Trump recently imposed auto tariffs of 25% and similar duties on semiconductors and pharmaceutical imports.
