The now-politician but once-actor, John Dumelo has secured a seat in parliament, representing the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.
Dumelo, running on the platform of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), won the 2024 Ghana general elections, held on Saturday by garnering 40,561 votes.
He had defeated incumbent Lydia Alhassan of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who received 27,377 votes.
This triumph follows his narrow defeat to Alhassan in the 2020 elections. Dumelo, now 40 years old, expressed deep gratitude to his supporters and promised to deliver on his campaign pledges.
“The people of Ghana have been calling for change, and they’ve shown that if you don’t perform well or if you’re arrogant, they will vote you out,” Dumelo stated.
He added, “This is a valuable lesson for everyone. It’s not about money; it’s about the development of the people and addressing their needs.”
He also pledged to work diligently over the next four years to bring meaningful change and guide Ghana in the right direction.
Dumelo began his acting career in 1991 with the film Baby Thief. He has since appeared in numerous Ghollywood and Nollywood productions, including Away Bus, The Game, Black Men Rock, One Night In Vegas, The King is Mine, and Four Play.
