Olajengbesi Hails Osun Gov, Assembly for Backing 38-year-old As Speaker
An Abuja-based legal practitioner, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has commended the Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, and the 26-member state House of Assembly for backing the election of a 38-year-old member, Hon Adewale Egbedun, as the Speaker of the eighth Assembly.
The lawyer said the election of a youth as the head of the state legislature is testament to the youth inclusiveness promised by the Adeleke-led government.
Olajengbesi said it is time for the full actualisation and realisation of the Not-Too-Young-to-Run-Bill signed into law by then President Muhammadu Buhari which brought down the age qualification for states’ House of Assembly, amongst others.
“The emergence of a youth as the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly will change the dynamics of executive-legislative business in the state. There is no doubt that the election of Hon. Adewale Egbedun is testament to the youth inclusive promise made by Governor Ademola Adeleke, who is the uncle to international Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, aka Davido,” Olajengbesi stated.
Egbedun, who is representing Odo-Otin state constituency, was elected the House Speaker on Tuesday, thereby taking over from Timothy Owoeye.
Also, Akinyode Oyewusi, representing Ife North Constituency, was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the House.
The inaugural sitting of the 8th Assembly was presided by the Clerk of the House, Simeon Amusan.
In his proclamation address, Governor Adeleke sought the support of the legislature to achieve his five-goal development agenda of good governance for the state.
Adeleke said that since the executive and overwhelming members of the legislature belonged to the same political party, the two arms should work towards the same goal of good governance and providing the people with the dividends of democracy.
