Housing: Edun inaugurates Family Homes Funds Board to advance affordable housing

In a decisive step towards addressing Nigeria’s housing challenges, the Federal Government has inaugurated the Board of Family Homes Funds Limited. The initiative aims to meet the housing needs of low-income earners and support broader socio-economic development across the nation.
The formal inauguration took place on July 30, 2024, at the Ministry of Finance in Abuja, with Mr. Wale Edun, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, leading the ceremony.
The Minister welcomed the newly appointed Board Members, emphasizing the importance of their role in the government’s housing strategy.
According to a statement released by the Ministry’s Spokesperson, Mohammed Manga, Minister Edun outlined the core objectives of the Family Homes Funds. The Fund is designed to create an inclusive environment by providing affordable housing, generating employment opportunities, and combating poverty.
Edun expressed strong confidence in the Board Members’ ability to fulfill their mandate, noting that their selection was based on rigorous merit-based criteria. He highlighted that the Fund’s success hinges on the expertise and commitment of the newly appointed members.
Mr. Ademola Adebise, who has been appointed as the Chairman of the Board, acknowledged the responsibility entrusted to him and his team. He reaffirmed their commitment to delivering affordable housing solutions for Nigeria’s low-income population, aligning with the government’s broader policy goals.
Adebise assured that the Board will leverage its collective experience to achieve the Fund’s objectives effectively.
In her opening remarks, Mrs. Lydia Shehu Jafiya, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for endorsing the appointment of the Board Members, whom she praised as seasoned experts in their respective fields. She also commended Minister Wale Edun for his relentless efforts in ensuring the successful implementation of government policies that positively impact the lives of Nigerians.
Mr. Okokon Ekanem Udo, Permanent Secretary for Special Duties, underscored the fundamental importance of housing to human life. He emphasized that the government’s commitment to this issue is unwavering and called on the Board Members to apply their extensive expertise to effectively realize the government’s housing policies.
