Fans, Technical Experts Decide Who Wins CAF Goal Of The Year Award
CAF has displayed the nominees for the prestigious Goal of the Year category at the #CAFAwards24, while football lovers get the chance to have their say over who wins the prestigious award.
The prestigious award includes 11 remarkable goals scored in CAF competitions between January and October 2024, representing the outstanding talent of African footballers.
Voting for the award will open immediately and continue until Thursday, December 12. CAF has established a dedicated voting platform accessible through its official website and social media channels, with fans playing a crucial role in determining the winner. Public votes will constitute 70 percent of the total score, while CAF’s Technical Experts will contribute the remaining 30 percent.
The nominated goals represent a diverse range of African football competitions, including the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, CAF Champions League, CAF Confederation Cup, and international qualifiers. Notable nominees include Sébastien Haller from Ivory Coast, Saïd Benrahma from Algeria, and Wessam Abou Ali from Al Ahly, each presenting extraordinary goals that captured the imagination of football enthusiasts.
This unique award stands out as the only CAF recognition that directly involves fan participation, emphasising the connection between supporters and the sport. The winner will be revealed during the CAF Awards Gala on Monday, December 16, in Marrakech, Morocco, marking a significant celebration of African football excellence.
We have no Nigerian on the shortlist, another pointer to the need for football development to focus at the grassroots, which will, in turn, furnish the domestic league with players that have the skills and capacity to excel at home and in the continent in the near future.
