Former Arsenal forward Emmanuel Adebayor has said he is a Nigerian despite representing Togo internationally during his active years.
According to him, he is a Yoruba from Nigeria but was born and raised in Togo.
The 39-year-old veteran striker disclosed this in a recent interview with newsmen
He said: “My father’s name is Adeyi Adebayor, and my mother’s name is Alice Eniola Adekanye. So, I am a pure Yoruba man. I was just born and raised in Togo, but I am fully from Nigeria.”
The former African Player of the Year was in Nigeria to participate in the novelty match organised by African football legends in honour of former Super Eagles captain Austin Jay Jay Okocha, who recently turned 50.
In other news, The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, has felicitated with Dr. Alex Anozie on his 26th year anniversary as the Eze Ndigbo of Ibadanland in Oyo State, urging him to remain an apostle of love and peace.
Oba Balogun noted that there has been significant peace between the Igbo and Yoruba ethnic groups without any major rancour since Dr. Alex Anozie became the Ezendigbo of Ibadanland in 1997.
In a letter addressed to the Igbo monarch, in commemoration of his coronation, Oba Balogun advised him to continue to be an advocate of unity and progress of one Nigeria.
