This year’s edition of Nigerian Electronic Media Content Exhibition and Awards (NEMCEA), which held at Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos from August 22-24, 2023, witnessed stakeholders and experts proffering solutions to the challenges of broadcast media in Nigeria.

Like it happened last year, Days 1 and 2 of the event were dedicated to the opening ceremony, conferences/panel sessions, featured sessions/workshops, and exhibition of the best of Nigerian content and programmes from radio, TV, and online space. Day 3 was a night of glitz and glamour set aside to reward content creation excellence.

In her welcome address, president, Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN), Mrs Jibe Ologeh, who was represented by her deputy, Theophilus Akatugba, described NEMCEA as a three-pronged event consisting of content exhibition, conferences and awards, therefore, “it’s imperative to continue adding value to the industry through the event.”

On his part, NEMCEA’s Project Director, Alayande Stephen said: “Our theme this year includes taking a look at Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it has come to stay as part of our lives as human beings.

How do we then tap into such for our businesses and maximize the global revolution?”

However, the Special Guest of Honour, Ebonyi State governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, who was represented by the state’s Commissioner of ICT, Comrade Tochukwu Uzoh, reiterated the importance and role of the media and content owners in the lives of the people.

He said, “Today, as we witness the rapid growth and revolution of the electronic media landscape, it is crucial for us to appreciate the tremendous efforts and contributions of media professionals, content creators, broadcasters and technology innovators who are at the forefront of this transformative journey.”

The award night was all glamour and panache with the keynote address given by veteran actor and lecturer, Dr. Tunji Sotimirin, who urged stakeholders to increase their standard of production in order to meet up with the criteria set by NEMCEA.

Industry stakeholders at the event were Alhaji Adedayo Thomas, Executive Director, National Film And Video Censors Board (NFVCB); Director General, Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Salihu Abdul-Hamid Dembos, who was represented by Tunji Adekoya, General Manager, (NTA 10, Lagos); DG, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Malam Balarabe Shehu Ilela, represented by Lagos NBC Zonal Director, Raphael Akpan; Osamede Uwubanwmen, president, Advertisers Association of Nigeria (ADVAN); Victor Okhai, President, Directors Guild of Nigeria (DGN); Dozie Okafor, Vice President, Media Independent Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MIPAN); and actor/producer, Emeka Ossai among others.
