ROGEAP, Ecobank to train SMEs in renewables

The Regional Off-Grid Electricity Access Project, in partnership with Ecobank Nigeria, has announced a three-day Entrepreneurship Business Training Workshop for small and medium enterprises in the solar energy sector in Abuja.

According to a joint statement by the partners, the training, scheduled for March 10-12 in Abuja, will empower 50 SMEs with technical, financial, and business management skills needed to succeed in the rapidly growing renewable energy industry.

ROGEAP is funded by the World Bank, the Clean Technology Fund, and the Directorate General for International Cooperation of the Netherlands. It is implemented by ECOWAS through a project fund manager.

Through this initiative, participants will gain in-depth knowledge of the off-grid solar value chain, quality assurance, environmental and social risk management, business model development, and access to financial opportunities such as ROGEAP grants and credit lines.

Speaking on the value proposition of the workshop, the ESF Team Lead at ROGEAP, Salamatu Baba Tunzwang, said, “This workshop is a crucial step toward advancing sustainable energy access and business growth in Nigeria. By equipping SMEs with the right tools and knowledge, we are empowering them to drive economic development while expanding access to clean energy solutions.

“At Ecobank, we are excited about this collaboration. The workshop aligns with our ongoing efforts to support SME growth. This training will be invaluable for our SME customers involved in solar installations and sales. It complements our ELLEVATE Programme and Single Market Trade Hub, providing them with access to customised financial products, digital tools, and strategic guidance to expand into broader markets,” added Divisional Head, FCT/North Ecobank Nigeria, Tunde Dawodu.

ROGEAP’s mission is to enhance access to sustainable energy across 12 ECOWAS member countries and seven additional African nations by developing a regional market for off-grid solar products and supporting value chain stakeholders.
