Olu of Warri Host 10th Colourful ‘Ghigho Aghofen’ Ceremony

It was yet another colourful event at the 10th edition of the ‘Ghigho Aghofen’ ceremony as the people of Orugbo in their numbers marched into the palace of the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, in a celebration of transfer of stewardship over the palace.

The occasion featured colourful cultural displayed by the Itsekiri witnessed the attendance of Efurokpe community and other Itsekiri communities of Ethiope-West Local Government Area who had kept watch since 16th March, to the venerable Orugbo community, in the creeks of Warri South Local Government Area, the ancestral home of Ode-Itsekiri.

The event also honoured the unwavering communal bonds within the Warri Kingdom saw captivating cultural displays and homage from diverse tribal groups resident in Warri, including Ilaje, Igbo, Urhobo as well as the Ghanaian community.

The objective among others was to promote culture, peace and cordial relationship between the King and the communities that made up the Warri Kingdom as well as monarchs in his Kingdom.

Olu of Warri expressed his commitment in building and fostering strong ties with the communities in order to have a deeper understanding of their plight in a bid to proffer solutions.

Chief Mene Brown, the Ogwa –Olusan of Warri Kingdom, had earlier welcomed the communities that had thonged the palace and thanked them for their unalloyed loyalty to the King and the Kingdom.

Orugbo community was founded by Ibrikimo and Otuekine deity, later joined by Ike during the reign of Olu Irame, between the years 1525 to 1549 AD.

Their migration commenced from present day Iraq in the Middle East, traversing Northeast Africa to Ode-Itsekiri, and then finally terminating in Orugbo. Here they settled and diligently practiced their mission and belief system, which centered on doing good, justice, and equity at all times.
