SC 2:Governor’s Apartment

Mr Emeka is standing with his co-politician. Some are seated and others are standing. Mr Emeka, with a glass of wine in his hand, moves about anxiously. It is obvious he is expecting something. He keeps looking at his watch. Just then, John storms in.
MR EMEKA: Ah! Ha! John, what is the outcome from the general collation centre?
(John pretends not to be happy)
Your Excellency, the total result of the vote has been received. With the situation on ground, the incumbent governor seems to be…
MR EMEKA: (He interrupts.)
John, did Reformers Party lose? Did we lose the election to the incumbent governor?
JOHN: You Excellency, it is a tight race but obviously a winner must emerge. Whichever way it goes, we must learn to embrace the spirit of a sportsmanship…
(Mr Emeka sinks to the sofa. He is downcast. John continues.)
…knowing fully well that when a winner takes it all, it makes the loser feel so small
(He pauses for a while and goes to Mr Emeka. )
Your Excellency! Are you alright?
MR EMEKA: I lost all my investment in this election. God, I am finished. How do I start, from where and how? God!
JOHN: Your Excellency, you need not bother about that for in ‘3’ days time, you would be sworn in as the new governor of this state.
(All of them jubilate as they refill their glasses and celebrate the success.)
The indigenes of the state declared that they are tired of the incumbent governor since he could not deliver the most needed democratic dividend.
MR BABATUNDE: Oh, Johnny, why did you keep us all in suspense all the while you entered?
MR EMEKA: You know my heart pressure is not friendly with shock. Eh!
JOHN: You Excellency, I am so sorry. You know what I studied in school.
MR EMEKA: Oh! I’ve forgotten. You this Theatre Artist, you have a way with words
JOHN: Yes, it is called suspense infinity
MR IKE: What is that Johnny?
JOHN: Another theatrical slogan
(All of them laughed.)
