The veterans of Hollywood, Denzel Washington and Michael J. Fox were among the honorees of the Presidential Medal of Freedom on Saturday, January 4.
The Medal of Freedom is the nation’s highest honour and recognises individuals who have made outstanding contributions to American culture, society, and global leadership.
Two-time Academy Award winner Denzel Washington was celebrated for his acting career and his work as a minister and philanthropist.
Micheal J. Fox was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1998 and was honoured for his decades-long advocacy for research on the ailment.

His foundation has raised more than $1.75 billion for Parkinson’s research.
Other honorees included former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, humanitarian and U2 singer Bono, basketball star Earvin “Magic” Johnson, international football star Lionel Messi, and others.
Speaking on the recognition, President Joe Biden heaped praise on the recipients, calling them “extraordinary people” whose contributions have shaped America’s culture and future.
