Oba Ewuare II presented the plaque to Rema on Thursday during the artiste’s visit to the royal palace ahead of his much-anticipated homecoming concert at the Ogbe Stadium
The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has honoured afrobeats singer Rema with a royal plaque in recognition of the singer’s contributions to the promotion of the Benin Kingdom.
The event marks a great moment in Rema‘s career as he returns to his roots in Benin City.
Rema accompanied Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, on Wednesday for the groundbreaking ceremony of Edo Arena.
During the ceremony, Governor Obaseki announced that the new 6,000-capacity arena would be named “Rema Dome” in honor of the singer, further cementing his status as a cultural icon of Edo State.
He has used his platform to promote the state and the rich legacy of the ancient Benin Empire, with his latest hit song, Benin Boys, featuring fellow Edo-born artiste Shallipopi, serving as a tribute to his hometown.
Rema, whose real name is Divine Ikubor, hails from Benin City and has consistently showcased his pride in his heritage.
