Once Eedris Abdulkareem’s Backup Singer- Timaya Opens Up About Past
Timaya Opens Up About Past As Eedris Abdulkareem’s Backup Singer
Nigerian artist, Inetimi Alfred Timaya Odon, popularly known as Timaya, has shared insights into his early days as a struggling musician.
Timaya disclosed that he served as a backup singer for his colleague, Eedris Abdulkareem, for a period of three years.
He emphasized that despite any current differences, Abdulkareem would always hold the position of his boss in his eyes.
The singer elaborated on how the experience gained while working with Abdulkareem contributed significantly to promoting his music, particularly in Lagos, despite residing in Port Harcourt at the time.
Timaya reflected, “I spent three years as a backup singer for Eedris Abdulkareem. I absorbed valuable lessons during that time, which I later applied when I returned to Port Harcourt. I realized that, with the knowledge I had acquired, promoting my music from Port Harcourt wasn’t sufficient; I needed to focus on Lagos, despite residing elsewhere due to financial constraints. Even Burna Boy received similar advice to relocate from Port Harcourt after gaining prominence. When you achieve success in one place, it’s essential to distance yourself and support from afar.”
He concluded by affirming his enduring respect for Abdulkareem as his boss, clarifying that any lack of communication between them is not indicative of animosity.
