Veteran Nollywood actor, Richard Mofe Damijo, popularly known as RMD has shared valuable filmmaking advice with Nigerian comedian Basketmouth as he prepares to release his debut film, A Ghetto Love Story.

At 63, RMD, a cornerstone of Nollywood, encouraged Basketmouth to seek mentorship from established industry figures, including fellow comedian Ayo Makun, also known as AY.

RMD offered his insights on Instagram, congratulating Basketmouth on his new project and emphasizing the importance of respecting the filmmaking process. “Congratulations on your new film ‘A Ghetto Love Story’. I wanted to reach out to you first to offer some advice. You are entering a space where many have already established themselves. Be prepared. This is not comedy or a skit; it’s film-making,” RMD wrote.

He urged Basketmouth to connect with influential figures in the industry, saying, “When you enter, seek out those who have made their mark. Consult with people like Funke Akindele, Mo Abudu, AY, and Kunle Afolayan—those who are true experts in the field. Reach out to them and ask for guidance. While calling Buchi for a skit may work, it’s essential to pay respect to the established professionals.”

This advice carries particular weight considering the complex history between Basketmouth and AY, who were estranged for 17 years. Their reconciliation last October, following Basketmouth’s public apology, marked a significant turning point in their relationship, aimed at fostering harmony.

AY, who made his Nollywood debut in 2014 with 30 Days in Atlanta, has since produced acclaimed films including A Trip To Jamaica, Christmas in Miami, and Merry Men.
