Dangote Cement Empowers Host Communities with N16 Million Scholarship
Dangote Cement, Ibese Plant, has demonstrated its commitment to community development by awarding N16 million in scholarships to 120 needy students from its 17 host communities in Ogun State, Nigeria.
The scholarship presentation was part of the company’s 2024 Host Community Day, themed “Celebrating Resilience through Effective Partnership.” Held on Wednesday at the premises’ Lawn Court, it brought together stakeholders, traditional rulers, and community leaders.
Plant Director, Roy K. Uttam, emphasized the company’s focus on youth empowerment and highlighted various initiatives, including skill training programs in shoe and leather making, POP, screeding, and painting.
He added that the scholarship awards and other corporate social responsibility initiatives are a testament to the company’s commitment to its host communities.
In addition to the scholarship awards, Dangote Cement also distributed 55 chest freezers to vulnerable women, provided fertilizers, pesticides, and knapsack sprayers to 60 farmers, and implemented a welfare program for 50 elderly individuals.
The company’s efforts have been commended by traditional rulers and community leaders, who have urged Dangote Cement to continue its good work. HRM Oba Abayomi Salako, the Aboro of Iboroland, praised the company’s commitment to developing its host communities and encouraged the company to sustain its efforts ¹.
