The Lagos State government has proved that Lagos is indeed a Centre of Excellence with the Christmas decorations that now dot the city. And this is something it does every year, adding fun, ecstasy and unforgettable memories to the Yuletide in Nigeria’s commercial capital.

Bright lights of different designs, shapes and colours has not only turned the city into Wonderland, Lagosians, who feed their eyes on a daily basis now have a feel of Christmas and are in a celebratory mood this festive season.

Everywhere bright lights catch Lagosians fancies and. attention; and they are always around them with loved ones having fun, taking selfies, and photographs.

Still, an intriguing thing about these Christmas decorations is that Lagosians cannot predict the kind of aesthetics that may come their way as they go about their daily activities. And that sense of unpredictability, surprise and suspense makes up the fun.

It is indeed an annual ritual that is a life-time experience. Vishal Dhawan, an Indian man in the company of his wife, friends and other family members cannot help express his ecstatic feelings about the Christmas decorations in a video posted by Voice of America, VOA

“it’s long we have been enjoying these lights. Our children have gone back to India. But they are still missing the lights. They are saying, ‘Okay show us the videos,” Dhawan says, beaming with smiles as he admires one of the Christmas decorations in Lagos.

While Rebecca Moses said the bright lights give Lagosians a feel of Christmas, that the festive season is around the corner.

And if the seeming phantasmagoria that dots the city is anything to go by, Lagos will soon snatch the cognomen, “City of Lights” from Paris, thanks to the state government ‘s sense of aesthetics.

Indeed, like Paris, Lagos is now a city of delights. it is now also Neverland made real. Twinkling luminous objects of magic and fantasy – sometimes dizzying – light up the city. And Lagosians cannot but see themselves in a imaginary world made real.

Not only do these Christmas decorations excite the imagination of Lagosians, they make them have an aesthetic experience that can only be gotten in a place like Lagos.And the interesting thing about these decorations is that they will be around for a long time as they will be on display till at least mid January.

Where can these Christmas decorations be found? One may ask. They are everywhere in the city, both on the island and on the mainland. For instance , twinkling Christmas light displays can be seen under Falomo bridge where the portraits of the Chibok girls are.

They can also be seen outside the Church of Assumption in Lagos. There are also everywhere on the mainland – in Alausa the seat of government and in strategic places in Ikeja and it’s environs

Corporate organizations such as Zenith Bank and the United Bank for Africa, UBA, are not left out. They have also made their impact felt in Lagos this festive season.

In line with it’s annual tradition, Zenith Bank once again set the stage for the Yuletide as it lighted up Ajose Adeogun Street and Roundabout, Victoria Island, Lagos on Saturday, 23 November 2024.

The Light-Up ceremony was performed by the Group Managing Director/Chief Executive of Zenith Bank Plc, Dame (Dr.) Adaora Umeoji, OON, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR.

Now in its 18th year, the beautiful Christmas decoration, which has transformed the entire stretch of Ajose Adeogun Street and Roundabout into a breathtaking yuletide wonderland, has been recognized as an iconic tourist attraction, bringing visitors from far and wide who visit with their families and friends to take pictures and enjoy the ambience of the street.

“Over the years, Zenith Bank has hosted this spectacular event, transforming the entire Ajose Adeogun Street into a breathtaking yuletide wonderland. Our beautiful and elaborate Christmas decorations have become a centre of attraction and shared on social media platforms globally.

“As we light up the street tonight, we celebrate the essence of Christmas and Zenith Bank’s unparalleled CSR. Our customers will always be at the centre of all that we do in Zenith Bank,” Umeoji said

United Bank for Africa, for its part, has also ushered in the Yuletide with its annual Garden Light-Up ceremony. A statement from the company revealed that the ceremony was done through its corporate social responsibility arm, the UBA Foundation.

The Garden Light-Up represents UBA and its Foundation’s commitment to spreading cheer and fostering a sense of community during this special time of year. And it also serves as a beacon of hope and celebration, setting the tone for the season of giving.

Speaking at the event, UBA’s Group Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Oliver Alawuba, said: “This ceremony is a reflection of our belief in the importance of family, unity, and giving back to the communities we serve.

“Together, we have achieved remarkable milestones, and we look forward to an even brighter future; I, therefore, encourage each of you: when you go home, touch your neighbour’s life. By spreading kindness and light,” he stated.
