Having a female as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of a bank is not what is very common in this part of the world, and this is the reason one gets to the position, it is celebrated.

This is because, in the past, women were relegated and not educated. Their fathers usually believed they would end up in the kitchen or the other room, so, there was no need to send them to school.

On Tuesday, news of the appointment of Ms Adaora Umeoji as the new chief executive of Zenith Bank Plc went viral, and this has been celebrated because of her rise to the position.

In her profile, she was said to have spent almost three decades in the banking industry, 26 of which have been at Zenith Bank. She was said to have joined the company as a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and quickly rose through the ranks because of her positive impact on the bank, winning big accounts, an oil most wheels of financial institutions need to move smoothly.
