2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day: Nigerian Military Honours Senate Navy Chair Otunba Gbenga Daniel

To recognize his enduring support for the Nigerian military, Senator Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy and former Ogun State governor, on Tuesday, January 14, was honored with a Special Service Award by the Nigerian Armed Forces. The presentation was made by Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. C. G. Musa, during the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day commemoration in Abuja.

During the ceremony, Gen. Musa emphasized the importance of recognizing contributions to the military during honorees’ lifetimes, breaking from the traditional practice of posthumous recognition. Senator Daniel, who serves as the representative for Ogun East Senatorial District, delivered remarks on behalf of Senate President Godswil Akpabio, highlighting the invaluable sacrifices made by members of the Armed Forces in service to national development.

The event featured an art exhibition and a showcase of domestically manufactured military vehicles. Notable attendees included EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, current service chiefs’ representatives, and distinguished retired military leaders such as Admiral Dele Ezeoba, Air Marshall Sadique Abubakar, Gen. Lucky Irabor, and Air Marshall Isiaka Amao, alongside active senior military officers and other dignitaries.
