Are You Regular or Distinct? by Idede Osenyade.
We were all seated in a fifteen-seater bus, which had become a nine-seater, thanks to Covid; en route Lagos from Benin City.
It was a cold morning and was even colder with the AC that was oozing perfectly. As the journey began, the handset of the guy seated next to me rang.
He started a conversation with the caller at the other end. One aspect of their discussion got me thinking. He had met an old classmate of theirs, called Dele, and he tried to describe him to the caller. The caller obviously could not recall the name, so he asked what other things can he use to describe Dele.
And then my fellow passenger described him thus: “he was just a regular guy, he did nothing special back then to describe him with”.
I took a deep breath and started to ruminate on that description as the Biblical narration of genealogies crossed my mind.
“And Adam begat Seth, and Adam lived after he begat Seth…. And all the days that Adam lived were 930 years and he died!…”
“And Enoch lived 65 years and begat Methuselah, *and Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah 300years,*
…and he was not, (he did not see death like every other human) for God took him…(he was translated into the celestial)
And Methuselah lived 187 years and begat Lamech… And all the days of Methuselah were 969years.”
While some lived remarkable lives, with history-worthy achievements, others just passed time on earth, and all about their existence is the record of their time here on it. They lived regular, ordinary, and uninspiring life.
It’s another Friday, but before you join the TGIF gang, ponder on this, am I a mere figure for census purposes only or am I making an impact in the world in my own little way?
If I close my eyes in death, when I have gone the last mile of the way, what will be written about me?
Another ordinary person?
A mere figure?
A regular guy with no impact?
Now that you are alive, there is still an opportunity to leave the realm of ordinary and regular people.
Do the extraordinary!
Stand out!
Leave a legacy!
Be known for something peculiar to you!
Be a brand!
Think on these things!
