[COMPULSORY RETIREMENT] Many to go, as DHQ gives senior officers July 3 deadline

Many top military officers are to go on compulsory retirement, following a Monday, July 3, 2023 deadline given to them by the Defence Headquarters.

A credible source told ASHENEWS that many of the senior officers, especially those of the Nigerian Defence Academy Regular Course 38, had tendered their resignation immediately after the new Service Chiefs were announced by the Presidency.

This is contained in statement from the Defence Headquarters signed by Maj-Gen. Y. Yahaya for the Chief of Defence Staff on Monday

The senior officers are within the ranks of Generals, Brigadiers-General, Air Vice Marshals, and Admirals in the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force.

ASHENEWS recalls that President Bola Tinubu retired Service Chiefs, and appointed new ones.

This online platform further reports that the ranks of some of the senior officers left in the service after appointing the new ones, fall above those appointing, which necessitates their traditional retirement.

According to the statement, all senior officers with “seniority on commission “above Nigerian Defence Academy Regular Course 39 are to proceed on the voluntary retirement.

“I am directed to respectfully request services to direct all officers with seniority on commission above that of Nigerian Defence Academy(NDA) regular course 39 to submit their applications for voluntary retirement from service with immediate effect.

“I am to add that affected officers are to submit their applications to their respective service headquarters no later than on Monday, July 3, 2023,” the statement reads.
