His Excellency, The Senator, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, representing Ogun East in the red chambers, has formally notified Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun of the Federal Government’s approval to commence construction of the Abigi-Makun-Omi Naval Base in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.

In his letter to the governor, Senator Daniel, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, disclosed that the project, approved under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, will be executed in phases. The initial phase includes perimeter fencing, administrative blocks, and accommodation quarters for naval personnel.

Furthermore, Senator Daniel noted that the project will enhance maritime security and boost socio-economic development in the region and Ogun State at large. Future phases will feature educational facilities and a naval hospital, among other plans.

It is noteworthy, that the land on which the Naval base project is being sited was donated by the Abigi and Makun Omi Communities themselves.

Daniel, while expressing gratitude for the governor’s support, also acknowledged Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla’s contribution to the project’s approval. The naval base project, valued at two billion naira, represents a significant milestone in Daniel’s efforts to attract development to his senatorial district.

The former governor’s initiative aligns with his previous commitments to strengthen Ogun State’s maritime capabilities and strategic importance in naval operations.
