Gov Aliyu recognized with award for sustaining fight against banditry in Sokoto.

The executive governor of Sokoto state, Ahmed Aliyu has been honoured with an award of excellence in recognition of his administration’s dedication to maintaining security in the state.

The governor was awarded alongside his Commissioner for Local Government, Alhaji Dadi Adare, who was recognised for his tireless effort towards community development.

Alhaji Basharu Altine Guyawa, the convener of the Movement for Social Justice in Nigeria, said the award was in recognition of the governor’s commitment to the well-being of people, particularly those ravaged by the menace of banditry in the eastern part of Sokoto.

According to him, “On The Movement For Social Justice considered you worthy of an award”, Altine said during the award presentation held at the Government House.

Altine said the movement has been actively participating in campaigns for the return of peace and stability in areas devastated by banditry and conflict, with the aim of providing solutions to society.

According to him, the state government has provided all the necessary intervention, which is yielding positive results in the fight against insurgency.

Receiving the award, Governor Ahmed Aliyu thanked the movement and said the award is like a “Clarion call for his administration to continue delivering good services for the general good of the state.”

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to partnering with all relevant stakeholders with the view of protecting the state.

The Governor admitted that no part of the country is free of one security challenge or another, adding that every region has its own peculiar security challenge.

While highlighting some of the measures taken to address insecurity in the state, Governor Aliyu said his administration had restored security allowances which the previous government owed security personnel.

He noted that his government has purchased and distributed over 140 Buffalo and Hilux vans to security agencies in the state for effective surveillance.

“The establishment of the Sokoto State Security Guard Corps to complement the efforts of conventional security has helped in improving the security status of the state.” Aliyu further explained.

On his part, the Commissioner for Local Government who was also awarded for his attribution to the achievement made by the Governor said that the government’s commitment to community development has created an enabling environment for peace and economic stability in the state.

The highlight of the event was the deliberation from a Security Summit held with the theme ‘Accountability and Transparency of State Actors in Security Management’, in partnership with the Sokoto State Government.

Seasoned experts on security, including Professor Khalifa Shehu Dikwa, Professor Yahaya Tanko Baba, Professor Tukur Muhammad Baba, Professor Bello Bada, Professor Usman A. Abdulqadir and Senator Saidu DanSadau.

The organisers said the outcome of the summit will be documented and handed over to the state government as a road map for the resolutions of security challenges in the state.
