SENATE COMMITTEE ON ENVIRONMENT LED BY SEN. YUNUS AKINTUNDE & SEN. NED NWOKO PAYS A FAMILIARIZATION VISIT TO MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT

The Nigerian Senate Committee on Environment had a fruitful familiarization visit to the Ministry of Environment today 26th October 2023. The committee was led by its chairman and Vice Chairman, Senator Yunus Akintunde & Senator Prince Ned Nwoko respectively. The delegation engaged in insightful discussions aimed at strengthening collaboration for sustainable environmental policies and practices in the country.

During the visit, the committee members were warmly received by the Honourable Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal who extended a warm welcome to the delegation. Staff of the ministry introduced themselves and their various positions also citing their current projects.

Senator Yunus Akintunde leading the committee, expressed his appreciation for the Ministry’s dedicated efforts in environmental preservation and sustainable development. He highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts between legislative and executive bodies to address pressing environmental challenges and underscored the Senate’s commitment to supporting policies that promote a more sustainable Nigeria.

The Vice Chairman Senator Prince Ned Nwoko suggested a joint working group to further explore specific areas of work, including budget review, legislation review, environmental education programs, waste management and community engagement initiatives.

In response, the Hon Minister Balarabe Abbas Lawal expressed gratitude for the committee’s interest and emphasized the ministry’s dedication to enhancing environmental regulations, fostering eco-friendly practices, and advancing Nigeria’s environmental agenda on both national and international platforms.
