Sokoto, for improved data collection, integrates NIN into NSR

Sokoto state government has commenced processes of integrating National Identification Number (NIN) into National Social Register (NSR) for improved data collections.

The Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planing, Dr. Abubakar Zayyana, stated this at a 3-day step down training of 115 Enumerators, Community Development Officers and Grievance Readiness Officers in Sokoto on Tuesday.

Zayyana underscored the importance of data on proper planing, noting that the training marked a significant milestone in the effort towards strengthening the social protection system in the state.

” I acknowledged the critical roles that each of you play in the successful implementation of the social safety protection project.

” Your dedication, expertise and commitment to excellence will be instrumental in ensuring that our social register is accurate, reliable and effective ways of reaching people.

” Leveraging on the NIN will be able to streamline the processes, reduce duplication and ensure that resources are targeted to those who are in deer need,” Zayyana said.

He added that integration of NIN into NSR is a crucial step towards enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of social protection programmes.

The Commissioner reminded the trainees that the success of the programme depended on their ability to understand the system perfectly, work together, support one another and strive for excellence.

According to him, Gov. Ahmad Aliyu had been supporting all efforts of boosting data collections, gathering for poor and vulnerable people across the state.

In his address, the Coordinator, State Operations Coordinating Unit (SOCU), Mr. Chika Waziri-Junaidu, said the programme was designed to equip participants with knowledge, skills and expertise required to successfully integrate NIN into NSR.

” You are the frontline workers who will be interacting with beneficiaries, collecting data and ensuring that social register is accurate and up-to-date, ” he said.

Waziri-Junaidu commended President Bola Tinubu and Gov. Aliyu on their supports to the success of the programme, adding that Tinubu ensures different interventions to Nigerians that comprised Conditional Cash Transfer, RRR, N-Power programme among others.

Mr. Auwal Ibrahim, Official from National Social Safety Nets Office, said 43,000 vulnerable and poor persons were captured on the Sokoto State Social Register during a special outreach sponsored by the state government in the last four months.

Ibrahim said, at present Sokoto state has about 400,000 persons on State Social Register and may be part of 15 million people earmarked to benefits from the federal government supports.
