President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, congratulated the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of The Leadership Newspaper, Azubuike Ishiekwene, on his 60th birthday, applauding his decades-long contributions to Nigerian journalism.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Ishiekwene—fondly known as Azu—as a seasoned journalist whose incisive commentary and analysis have shaped public discourse in politics, the economy, and society.

“Azu Ishiekwene has built an outstanding career spanning over three decades in journalism. His sharp insights and recent writings on digital media have earned him recognition and admiration, even from those who may not always share his views,” the statement read.

A Fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors, Ishiekwene has worked with several notable media organisations, including The PUNCH, where he served as a columnist and editorial board member; ThisDay, where he rose to the position of Editor and later Deputy Managing Director; and Leadership Newspaper, where he currently serves as Group Managing Director.

Commending his contributions to the Nigerian media landscape, Tinubu expressed confidence that Ishiekwene’s new milestone would bring greater wisdom and inspiration.
