Tinubu inaugurates 50 Electric Taxis and 107 Mass Transit

President Bola Tinubu on Monday in Maiduguri inaugurated 107 Mass Transit vehicles including 50 electric taxis purchased by the Borno Government.

Speaking at the ceremony, the President hailed Zulum for the foresight, saying his development strides are innovative.

“Your Excellency (Governor Zulum)… this is exactly ‘Hope Renewed’. Thank you for your good job always. Thank you once again for being innovative and creative; for your concern about your people and the good governance you provide,” Tinubu, who was in Maiduguri for the 2023 Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference, said.

He disclosed that the Federal Government was planning to set up a plant in that direction to create employment and ease transportation.

“We are going to take advantage of your foresight and proactiveness to at the sub-national level be able to start an assembly plant and add more value to the economy and bring economic prosperity to our people. You (Zulum) are doing a good job, thank you very much,” he added.

Governor Zulum earlier said he was motivated to embark on the project following a directive from the President to the governors after removing fuel subsidies.

He said the deployment of 50 electric taxis was the first of its kind in Nigeria and was in line with the realities of climate change.

The vehicles inaugurated by the President included 50 electric taxis, 35 coaster buses, 12 Hummer buses, and 10 luxurious buses.

The President, who was in Maiduguri on his first official visit to the state, paid a courtesy call to the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi.
