NMDPRA promises Nigerians fuel availability, needs no fear
The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority has urged petroleum users to avoid panic buying in this yuletide season, noting that petroleum depots were wet with products.
The Coordinator of NMDPRA in Delta State, Mr Victor Ohwodiasa, while advising on Friday during a media chat in Warri, maintained that “there is sufficient product that will last beyond the festive period”.
“There is no cause for panic buying”, he reiterated.
Ohwodiasa stated that “the Federal Government is doing everything practically possible to sustain the availability of petroleum products especially in this yuletide season”.
He said, “There is no need for panic buying because all the depots are wet with products ranging from Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS), Automotive Gasoline Oil (AGO) and Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK)”.
The NMDPRA coordinator advised motorists not to stock fuel in the boot of their vehicles while travelling to avoid possible fire disasters.
He also urged people not to store fuel at home, noting that they are highly inflammable products.
According to him, storing petroleum products at home could endanger the life of the people and the properties.
Ohwodiasa, while wishing Nigerians a merry Christmas, stressed that the NMDPRA was concerned about the lives and properties of the citizens, particularly that of the Delta residents.
He spoke further, “People should shun carrying petroleum products about in vehicles or storing them at homes.
“They should buy the quantity they need at a time. They should also patronise only licensed retail outlets because they are the ones we have control over.
“If there are issues, we can go after them.
“However, if they notice any illegal operator that does not have license or selling PMS at home, they should reach out to us.
“The authority will take immediate action and give them feedback”.
