2023 Women’s World Cup: Ireland Vs Nigeria : FIFA appoints Mexican referee Katia Garcia to officiate match

World football governing body, FIFA has appointed a Mexican referee, Katia Garcia as the official for the final Group B match between Super Falcons of Nigeria and Republic of Ireland at the ongoing Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand

The match will be played at the Brisbane Stadium in Australia on Monday by 11 am Nigeria time.

Katia Garcia was in charge of New Zealand vs Philippines match in which the co-host “shockingly” lost by alone goal on July 25.

The 30-year-old umpire will be assisted by two of her compatriots Karim Dias Medina as Assistant Referee 1 (AR1) and Enedina Caudillo as AR2. Lina Lethovaara from Finland is the 4th match official.

Super Falcons are leading group B with 4 points same as second placed Olympic champions, Canada.

Nigeria on Thursday stunned co-host Australia in a 3-2 victory and will need just a draw to confirm their passage into the Round of 16.

However the nine-time Africa Champions need to pick the maximum points to maintain their leadership of the Group.

The Randy Waldrum led ladies are yet to test defeat in the tournament after drawing their opening game against Canada, which ended in a goalless draw on Friday last week.
