Super Eagles Ahmed Musa has returned to Kano Pillars on a short-term deal. He and his fellow teammate, Shehu Abdullahi, have come back to Nigeria to take part in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The two players were seen training with Kano Pillars on Thursday as they prepared for their upcoming match against Sunshine Stars in the NPFL’s fifth matchday. The club shared this news on its official X account on Friday, stating, “Ahmed Musa, Shehu Abdullahi, Nazir Laja, and the rest of the squad trained ahead of the NPFL 2024/25 Matchday 5 clash against Sunshine Stars this weekend.”

The 31 years old, Musa, is making his third return to Kano Pillars, having previously played for the club from the 2009/10 season until 2021. On the other hand, Abdullahi is returning for his second stint, having been part of the team in 2012.

Abdullahi has not been associated with any club since January 2023, while Musa ended his contract with the Turkish team Sivasspor in February. Despite the NPFL 2024/25 summer transfer window being closed, both players can join the team as free agents.

Sunday Obaseki, the head of competitions for the NPFL, confirmed Musa’s ability to rejoin the league, saying, “Yes, he can be registered. Ahmed Musa will be on the Transfer Matching System, so he won’t have a problem,” in an interview with reporters.

It’s been reported that Rangers International, the current NPFL champions, were interested in signing Musa before he chose to return to Kano Pillars.

While in his first season with the club in 2009, Musa was the league’s top scorer, netting 18 goals before transferring to VVV Venlo in the Netherlands.

His European journey has included successful times at CSKA Moscow and Leicester City, and he later moved to Saudi Arabia to play for Al Nassr.
