Both Chelsea and Arsenal are willing to pay £77m for Osimhen

Chelsea and Arsenal have been linked with the move for Super Eagles and Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen in recent months.

The striker has a massive release clause in his contract and his suitors are unwilling to pay up. A report from Napoli Magazine claimed that Chelsea and Arsenal are willing to pay up to £77 million for the player.

It will be interesting to see if the Italian outfit is prepared to accept the offer and sell him below his release clause. Osimhen reportedly has a release clause of around €120-130 million, and it seems unlikely that any club would be willing to pay that kind of money for him.

There is no doubt that the 25-year-old Nigerian international is one of the best strikers in the world right now and he helped Napoli win the league title last season. He could prove to be a quality acquisition for the London clubs.

Chelsea is in desperate need of a reliable goalscorer and Osimhen would be a major upgrade on Nicolas Jackson. The former La Liga striker has not been able to score goals consistently since joining Chelsea in the summer.

Similarly, Gabriel Jesus has been quite underwhelming for Arsenal and the Gunners will need a more reliable goalscorer if they want to win major trophies. Someone like Osimhen could transform both teams in the final third and it remains to be seen whether they can get the deal done.

Arsenal currently fighting for the league title and they are set to compete in the UEFA Champions League next season. On the other hand, Chelsea could finish in the mid-table positions. It is fair to assume that Arsenal could have an edge in the cheese because of that.
