Eguavoen Gives Needed Condition To Take Up Super Eagles Job.

Augustine Eguavoen has opened up about the possibility of taking on the national team’s coaching role on a permanent basis.

Eguavoen, who is currently preparing the team for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers against Libya, highlighted what it would take for him to accept the role full-time.

After guiding the Super Eagles to four points in their first two qualifying matches.

Eguavoen emphasized that any discussions about a permanent appointment must involve a long-term contract, as well as patience and unwavering support from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Speaking to Brila FM, he said, “The Super Eagles job is not something you take on lightly. If I were to be offered the job permanently, I would need to sit down and reflect deeply because it is a massive responsibility.”

He stressed the importance of stability for success: “It’s not an easy task. For me to take the job full-time, I’d require a long-term contract, patience, and specific clauses, because winning isn’t something that happens every day. Building a solid team takes time.”

The coach, who has held the role three times previously, expressed frustration that he has never been given enough time to implement his vision for the team.

“In 2006, I was in charge for just six months. The other times, it was two months or only a few games. Clemens Westerhof was with the team for five years, Gernot Rohr for six years, but I never had two consecutive years in charge,” Eguavoen said.

Eguavoen reiterated that if he is to succeed as the full-time coach, he would need a clear commitment from the NFF, including contractual guarantees and the necessary support to build a winning team over time.
