The defeat of Man. City, Man. United win second FA Cup in a row

Manchester United defeated Manchester City 2-1 on Saturday to claim the FA Cup for the second time in a row and qualify to play Europa League football.

Kobbie Mainoo celebrates

City were expected to override United but it was the unfavoured side that led by two goals in the first half.

United opened the scoring in the 30th minute of the match. A terrible mistake led to the goal. The defender ended up losing possession, allowing Alejandro Garnacho to pick up the ball before slotting it into the back of the net.

United scored a second goal in the 38th minute but it was ruled out for offside.

But the Red Devils would not be denied a minute later after a superb finishing from Kobbie Mainoo. Bruno Fernandes played a fantastic through ball and found Mainoo, who reacted quickly to get in front of the goalkeeper and fired a close-range shot into the bottom right corner to make it 2-0.

In the 55th minute, City missed a chance to get back into the game. Erling Haaland latched on to an accurate pass inside the box and fired a bullet of a shot that crashed against the crossbar.

In the 59th minute, Kyle Walker received a low pass just outside the box and unleashed a fine strike towards the right post. Andre Onana pulled off a reflexive save to block his effort.

City pulled one back in the 87th minute. Phil Foden played a short, square pass into the path of Jeremy Doku, who bent a shot straight into the bottom left corner to make it 2-1.
